Overview

Stay updated on recent pain management claims with this OnDemand educational program. Learn about recent claim trends, strategies from past cases, and practical tips to minimize risks for your practice. This program is perfect for all healthcare professionals seeking to enhance patient safety, decrease unfavorable outcomes, and reduce malpractice risks. Recognize the importance of informed consent, implement strategies and guidelines for safe prescribing controlled substances, optimize patient outcomes with a “time-out” checklist, and improve documentation using the HAMPSTER mnemonic.

80% of learners will demonstrate an increased knowledge of pain management malpractice claims, risk mitigation strategies, documentation practices, and safe prescribing practices by scoring 80% or higher on a post-test, with the goal to improve patient outcomes.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Recognize the significance of informed consent and utilize effective methods when obtaining patient consent.
  2. Implement one or more strategies to reduce risks and improve patient safety when prescribing controlled substances.
  3. Explain four necessary items to include in a “time-out” procedural checklist that can optimize a patient’s outcome.
  4. Improve documentation using the HAMSTER mnemonic in documenting patient interactions and treatment plans.
