This activity includes video lectures and is the fifth in a series of courses that seek to educate clinicians on standardized screening, evaluation, and disease management of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. This fifth course focuses on the most frequently used and FDA-approved prescription medications for Alzheimer's disease and dementias, the current research regarding its use, and guidelines for prescribing and discontinuing medication. The program will incorporate cultural values and beliefs when creating and sharing the pharmacological care plan.

To obtain credit and a certificate of completion, learners must score 80% or higher on a post-test and complete a program evaluation.

Learning Outcome Statement: 80% of learners will demonstrate increased knowledge of pharmacotherapy for patients with Alzheimer's or dementia, its benefits and risks, and assess side effects by scoring 80% or higher on the post-test.

1. Demonstrate an ability to identify, describe, and communicate the benefits and risks of pharmacotherapy to my patients and their family members/caregivers.
2. Evaluate a patient's medication side effects and determine the appropriate action which can include adjustment or discontinuation of Alzheimer's or dementia medications.
3. Evaluate a patient's appropriateness for referral to a specialist for additional treatments addressing neurocognitive disorders.
4. Adopt new non-pharmacological and pharmacological strategies for enhanced patient care.
