Overview

This activity is the third in a series of eight courses that seek to educate clinicians on standardized screening, evaluation, and disease management of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. This third course focuses on using the DICE method to assess behavioral symptoms of dementia and create and evaluate treatment plans. This course also covers the careful use of medication during disease management and common behavioral issues with dementia patients including tools for management of these behaviors.

Learning Outcome Statement: Learners will demonstrate increased knowledge regarding the DICE method to assess behavioral symptoms of dementia and create and evaluate treatment plans by scoring 80% or higher on a post-test.

To obtain credit and a certificate of completion, learners will score 80% or higher on a post-test and complete a program evaluation.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Apply the DICE method into assessment and treatment of dementia and other clinical cases.
  2. Integrate caregivers in treatment planning for dementia patients.
  3. Attempt environmental and behavioral change interventions as the first treatment recourse for behavioral complications in patients living with dementia.
  4. Develop best prescribing practices when discussing medications with their patients, especially the guidelines for aging and dementia patients.
