Overview

Nearly 84 million Americans lack adequate primary care, and advanced practice clinicians (APCs) are crucial for maintaining and expanding patient access. One of healthcare’s fastest growing professional segments, APCs are taking on increasing autonomy and accountability. Because of that, they face distinct, significant, and long-lasting liability risks, and providing excellent care is not enough to mitigate them. This webinar—featuring insights from leading nurse practitioners, physician assistants, certified midwives, and certified registered nurse anesthetists—will cover the most common liability risks APCs face in their practice environments, including systemic challenges in group practice situations and issues with communication, documentation, consent, and scope of practice. Experts will share strategies to reduce these risks, as well as key information on ensuring APCs have medical malpractice coverage that adequately protects their livelihoods and reputations. In a discussion moderated by Surani Hayre-Kwan, DNP, MBA, FNP-BC, FAANP, FACHE, Nurse Practitioner, West County Health Centers, and Member, TDC Group APC Advisory Board, these industry leaders will explain how APCs can navigate the risk management and liability insurance environment.

Learning Outcome Statement: Seventy-five percent of attendees will self-report that they will implement one action to reduce liability risks within six months.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Review your practice to identify any liability exposure and risks that could lead to malpractice claims.
  2. Implement one strategy to decrease risk associated with scope of practice, team structure, or delegation.
  3. Review your malpractice insurance to identify any gaps in coverage.
